Happy New Year!

January 4, 2010

Just random little notes and things that have been made recently, cause I really have nothing else to say at this time.

December 27, 2009

Figuring out what I was doing for Christmas was more work than necessary.
We can all thank this cake:

This was on the cover of Bon Appetit’s Christmas issue and as soon as I saw it I HAD TO MAKE IT. Read more

Planet Shark at the Georgia Aquarium

November 23, 2009

One of my favorite quotes from 30 Rock is from the first season…Tracy Jordan’s advice to “live every week like it’s shark week.” Sharks have always been interesting to me, and obviously interesting to other people judging by movies like Jaws.
Planet Shark is a new traveling exhibit making it’s debut at the Georgia Aquarium. While there are no actual live sharks present in it, there’s plenty of cool features from fossilized shark poop to interesting shark facts.
Planet Shark will make you think differently about sharks…or so I would hope. We’re made to believe they are absolutely the scariest thing in the water, yet it’s not like they attack people that often. In fact, you’re 200 times more likely to be killed by a deer than a shark. Who’s the cuter animal now? Read more

Review: Fogo de Chao-Brazilian Grand Prix

October 18, 2009

Fogo de Chao is the most fitting place to eat when you wish to celebrate the Brazilian Grand Prix…In fact, Jenson Button, now the Formula 1 World Champion, took the British press out to a churrascaria the other night, according to his Twitter page. But do you *really* need a reason to come here other than the obvious: all you can eat steak and other meats.
Considering qualifying Saturday afternoon took about 9 hours in the rain, it was only fitting that it started to rain as we drove up Piedmont in order to get to Fogo. Rain, a couple guys who look like distant relatives of Brazilian race car drivers, a drink that tastes entirely of Brazilian rum, and a whole lot of Brazilian steakhouse eating, what more could you ask for? Taste of Atlanta 2009

October 10, 2009

I put myself into a food coma today. And it was worth it.
Since I’m from Chicago, I have of course been to the “Taste of” festival of all festivals: the 9 day long Taste of Chicago. Granted, at the time I was a child, but I still remembered enough to be confused as to a) why Taste of Atlanta is 2 days long and b) why it closes at 6 and c) why it charges an admission fee beyond the taste tickets.
Whatever, it’s not Chicago, and it actually had more restaurants, probably because there’s not 9 days to be set up outside. Read more

Get ready…

September 24, 2009

Tomorrow I am off to Road Atlanta for the next two days >:D
In case you are completely unaware of how absolutely lucky we in Atlanta are, let me tell you about Petit Le Mans.
Generally I go into shock when people tell me they have not even heard of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which takes place yearly in Le Mans, France. There is a movie about it, thanks to Steve McQueen, and it stars the seductive sounds of a Porsche 917 (this is my opinion, you may feel it does actually star Steve McQueen). There is also a documentary out there on Audi’s battle against Peugeot called Truth in 24. Both are totally worth checking out. My goal in life is to attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans when it celebrates 100 years, which I believe would be 2023. I am staying up the whole time. Read more

Coca-Cola Freestyle [Wendy’s in Buckhead]

September 16, 2009

I went out in the rain today to the nearest location of a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine to me: Wendy’s. The signs on the window inform you of the fantastic opportunity awaiting inside: the choice of over 100 sodas in one machine.
Now in case you haven’t heard of the magnificent new breakthrough in soda dispensers, you are missing out.
First off here’s an image from their facebook profile:
